Why we are supporting BHF
As part of a drive to raise the profile of health & safety, at the beginning of 2020 the Company rolled out CPR training for all employees.
Cardiac arrest can happen at any time and anywhere, which is why we already have an automated external defibrillator (AED) in our workplace. This will be followed up by the installation of a second AED to be sited outside our offices for public use in an emergency.
To raise awareness of Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs) and to help with fundraising for research into life saving treatments the Company is supporting various staff fund raising activities.
We are all likely to know someone who has been affected by heart issues and Alan Hodgson, one of our Mesh Operatives, has his own story to tell! His wife Dawn suffered heart palpitations and missed beats during her first pregnancy.
After the birth of their first child, Dawn underwent surgery to repair a small hole in her heart. Unfortunately, three holes were in fact discovered and the operation was stopped. Open heart surgery was needed but had to be delayed due to a second pregnancy. The pregnancy had to be closely monitored and a heart specialist attended the birth.
Following more tests the three holes were found to be one large hole covered with strings of tissue. With two young boys Dawn had to undergo high risk life saving surgery! The surgery was successful and the family expanded to five with the birth of a daughter.
Covid-19 and BHF
Due to the ongoing pandemic BHF was forced to shut doors on all 750 of its shops for 3 months during lockdown, missing out on an estimated 30 million pounds.
It is now known that those with CVD are more susceptible and vulnerable to the sars-cov-12 virus and have a higher mortality rate when infected. BHF aim to find out the underlying reasons for this and consequently additional funding.
This is why, now more than ever, institutions and organisations should support the BHF and not let it become another victim of the pandemic.
Our Cycle Challenge?
The BHF teamed up with JustGiving to offer fun and safe cycling challenges. The challenge was over 30 days and had 3 levels, 100 miles, 200 miles and 300 miles.
We completed our cycle challenge and raised £1,519.
