In a project within the education sector to construct new student housing in St George’s Quay, Lancaster. Early in the building process it quickly became apparent that additional security measures were needed to protect the site. Two site borders, separated by a busy road, needed to be reinforced to enhance the health and safety of the site as well as guard against unauthorised access and lower the risk of vandalism and theft.
We were approached by Barkers Fencing, a Systems Manufacturer with over forty years of expertise in designing, manufacturing and delivering high-security fencing. They needed an efficient cost-effective solution to address the issue.
Moving away from traditional timber hoarding, Barkers supported our recommendation of using a robust 3D Profile Mesh Panel System. As well as being a more cost-effective solution that requires less initial investment, the mesh can be quickly disassembled and reused elsewhere, whether on the same site or on other projects. This flexible yet strong system is a visible deterrent for unwanted entry and offers a similar restricted view of what is going on within the site perimeter as more traditional systems.
We were able to produce the panels quickly and effectively using our ATT126 EVG Mesh Welding Machine. After quality checks, we delivered 637m of 3D Profile Mesh to Barkers Fencing, which was subsequently installed in just two weeks.
For the local area, the construction work is securely contained with a boundary fence that is safe, secure and practical without creating a sense of imposing walls around the site.
