Sustainability at Siddall & Hilton

We’re focused on cutting emissions across our value chain and reporting them clearly. Our path prioritises a UK‑made, short supply chain, better energy use, and credible Scope 1–3 data on the way to a verified Net‑Zero roadmap.

What we’re doing now

Measure & disclose

Build the carbon baseline

Expanding Scope 1–3 accounting with clear methods and assumptions. Exploring digital tools to improve data quality and automate reporting over time.

Energy & operations

Use less, use better

Targeted efficiency in high‑load processes; smarter scheduling and controls; evaluate lower‑carbon electricity options as we progress.

Materials & logistics

Lower‑carbon supply chain

Work with suppliers to improve embodied‑carbon data for wire and coatings. Leverage UK manufacturing and optimised freight to reduce long‑haul transport emissions.

Sustainability benefits

Lower transport emissions

UK manufacturing and shorter routes reduce the carbon miles compared with long‑haul imports.

Embodied‑carbon visibility

Growing Scope 3 data gives customers clearer insight for project reporting and procurement.

Less waste

Efficiency and better planning help cut scrap and unnecessary movements through the chain.

Fair‑carbon trade

Engagement with CBAM supports a level playing field for lower‑carbon production.

Carbon scopes roadmap

Scope 1 — Direct operations

  • Now: Process efficiency across welding & finishing; preventive maintenance; compressed‑air leak reduction; disciplined fleet use.
  • Next: Deeper metering & monitoring to target biggest loads; operator energy standards and start‑up/shutdown routines.
  • Later: Evaluate lower‑carbon heat/fuel options as technology and economics allow.

Scope 2 — Purchased electricity

  • Now: Reduce consumption through lighting upgrades, controls and scheduling.
  • Next: Assess certified renewable electricity procurement options.
  • Later: Explore on‑site generation and storage opportunities.

Scope 3 — Materials & logistics

  • Now: Build supplier data for embodied carbon in wire and coatings; include inbound and outbound transport in reporting; leverage UK manufacturing to reduce long‑haul transport emissions.
  • Next: Collaborate with partners on material efficiency, recyclability and smarter freight planning.
  • Later: Consider product‑level disclosures and third‑party verification.

Our improvement roadmap

Phase 1

Baseline & disclose

Complete operational baseline; expand Scope 3 (materials & transport); publish methodology and assumptions.

Phase 2

Reduce & substitute

Target energy and process efficiency; optimise logistics; work with suppliers on material efficiency and recyclability.

Phase 3

Collaborate & verify

Partner with customers and suppliers on product‑level disclosures and pursue third‑party assurance against our Net‑Zero pathway.
