Can you describe a project or task you worked on that you’re particularly proud of? What did you accomplish, and what impact did it have on the company or your team?
During the third lockdown in early 2021, I was looking for a new challenge and came across a Trainee Sales and Commercial Advisor position while on my job search. The rest, as they say, is history! It didn’t take long for me to say yes during the interview process and after doing some research on Siddall & Hilton. I was immediately sold on the company’s vision, the job role, and the training. My role has progressed over the last couple of years due to my training and due to having a go at different bits and pieces. For example, I have learnt how to produce technical drawings of our panels and I have kept that up and learned how to draw a wide range of our products along the way. As well as this, I liaise with customers on a day-to-day basis, deal with enquiries, process orders, create and log opportunities and quotations using our internal system, and work exceptionally well as part of a team.
Can you describe a project or task you worked on that you’re particularly proud of? What did you accomplish, and what impact did it have on the company or your team?
Apart from my sales duties, I am involved in a few various activities, the most important of which I am proud of is my apprenticeship. I am now making fantastic progress and want to complete this to the distinction standard by the end of the year. This is assisting my development on and off the job, and I am pleased to say that I am an ambassador for my apprenticeship provider. It means a lot for me to be recognised for my efforts elsewhere, and it demonstrates that I should keep doing what I’m doing because I’m doing something right.
How do you feel your work contributes to the company’s overall mission and goals?
I believe that being a good team player, which is essential in a sales team, is the most important thing I can do to contribute to our goal of becoming a world-class manufacturer. Everyone absolutely contributes to us being as successful as we are! We all have our own roles to play in order for the team to succeed, and we all fulfil them on a regular basis. For example, one of my responsibilities is to enter orders accurately into our internal system, which starts a fresh cycle of ensuring that everything is delivered on time. Additionally, I believe that simply learning something new every day and getting to know the business will help me develop further, again as both a professional and a person.
What sets this company apart from others you’ve worked for in the past?
Siddall & Hilton is fantastic, there isn’t really another way of putting it! The people are the most important factor in making it what it is. I have fantastic relationships with everyone, which makes working life more enjoyable and easier. Another important reason I enjoy working here is the company’s direction; we’re only becoming stronger, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the following years
How has this company supported your professional growth and development?
I feel like I have a great deal of freedom to practice new things in order to grow professionally and enhance my overall skill set. One of the responsibilities I had early in my career was to set me up with technical drawings, which hadn’t really crossed my mind when I joined, yet my development with this over the last couple of years has been wonderful as I can draw more and more panels. I’ve been allowed to continue my apprenticeship, which is helping me understand the world of sales and giving me a wide range of different ways to work. But I believe that working with experienced professionals that I can shadow every day is the most important factor.

Can you describe a project or task you worked on that you’re particularly proud of? What did you accomplish, and what impact did it have on the company or your team?
Before my role as a shift manager, I was an operator on the LGR102 (Mesh welding machine). I had only been at Siddall and Hilton for 8 months when I was given the opportunity to train a new starter (Jav). This was quite a daunting task at first, as I had by no means mastered the machine myself. 10 months later and Jav is now running the machine by himself with some support from his cell leader. I am very proud of the part I played in Jav’s development, but like many aspects of Siddall and Hilton, it was very much a team effort. I had a lot of support from my shift manager, cell leader and wider team, both as a trainee and a trainer. Training Jav wasn’t just beneficial for my personal development, training team members has a massive impact on a team’s efficiency and ability to be reactive. Continuous improvement is high on the agenda at Siddall and Hilton, and I am proud of the contribution I made to help improve that team.
Can you describe a project or task you worked on that you’re particularly proud of? What did you accomplish, and what impact did it have on the company or your team?
In my new development role as a shift manager, I am particularly proud that I managed to cover a week of night shifts as an acting shift manager, after only 2 weeks in the role. This was a massive learning experience for me, I encountered several challenging situations that I hadn’t encountered before, and this allowed me to practice my decision-making and problem-solving skills in real time and gave me the opportunity to get a ‘real feel’ for the role. Although I was on my own, I have a fantastic support network around me, that is only ever one phone call away. They are giving me the tools and information I need to develop myself into a quality manager.
Siddall and Hilton are putting a lot of time and effort into helping me develop in the shift manager role, but this will be beneficial for all parties in the long run, I think my determination and the support and training I am receiving is a recipe for success.
How do you feel your work contributes to the company’s overall mission and goals?
Siddall and Hilton and extremely focused on continuous improvement in all areas of the business, with the aim of achieving a world class status. The company is wanting to achieve this by developing and giving opportunities to the employees already here, which is quite a refreshing stance in my experience. Personally, I feel like my work as a shift manager will have a positive impact on the business, as it will allow me to have a greater understanding of where improvements need to be made, put my ideas into practice and work within a highly motivated management team to develop myself and my team. These are all aspects that will ultimately contribute to the company’s overall mission and goals. I have only been in the role for 4 weeks, so there is still a lot I need to do to develop myself to a point where I am having a significant impact in terms of achieving the company goals, but I feel I am moving in the right direction.
What sets this company apart from others you’ve worked for in the past?
I think the people are Siddall and Hiltons greatest assets, and what sets this company apart from others, is that they think this too. In my experience, people are given a high level of training and support and are highly invested in. People are given opportunities to develop themselves through learning new machines, bolt-ons and career development. I am not just a number here; I think people’s opinions are valued and acted upon. It is the only place I have worked that I consider a career and not just a job.
How has this company supported your professional growth and development?
The level of support I have received from Siddall and Hilton has been second to none. The company really has put a lot of time and effort into me. I’ve been on first aid and manual handling courses. I have achieved the health and safety champion bolt on, been given the opportunity to develop my training skills with a trainee and most recently successfully applied for the shift manager development role, this role alone is a 12 month commitment by the company to training and developing my professionally. I think anyone who is motivated and shows a willingness to develop themselves will be helped at every opportunity by Siddall and Hilton, it’s a great company to be a part of.
